Enjoying the bad daytime TV
August 28, 2007
I have a job interview this afternoon, and have a good feeling about it, which means this might be my last opportunity to watch bad daytime TV. I love the soap operas with the terible acting, and I also really like Judge Hatcher - she’s so funny. I also went for a long walk this morning to enjoy what I hope is my last chance for a while to wander around for no reason in the middle of the week.
The interview is for a temporary job that could lead to a permanent job if it’s a good fit. It’s working for a small firm in San Francisco helping with preparation for several upcoming trials - motions in limine, trial briefs, witness prep, etc. Somehow I convinced the lead attorney that I know how to do all that stuff. Let’s hope I can keep him convinced long enough to get hired! Actually, I’m kind of kidding - I did a lot of this kind of work before and during law school so I should pretty much be fine. My bigger concern is how I will get along with everyone in the office - it’s a 4-attorney firm and in an office that size you really have to get along with everyone and get used to being in each others’ space all the time. It’s not like in a bigger office where you can find little hiding places where nobody will bother you for a while, or you can decide to be quiet and stay out of the line of fire at certain times.
The other attorney I’ve been working for is apparently happy with my freelance work, since he called me again yesterday for a quick research project. I like the work I’m doing for him, but it’s too sporadic, and I don’t know when he’ll next need something, so I can’t rely on the income.
By the way, I was freaking out when the health insurance I had through my school expired a couple of weeks ago, since I take a couple of medications that are pretty expensive and don’t know when I’ll get a job or be able to afford insurance again. I found a couple of programs where I can get substantial discounts during this temporary period. If anyone else is in the same boat, e-mail me and I will be happy to tell you about these programs. I didn’t know they existed, and I’m really glad I found them.
That’s really about it. Wish me luck!

Good luck! I hope your interview went well, that you get the job, and that these people realize how much of a commodity you are.
More importantly, Hatcher sucks. People’s Court Judge Milian is the best. No major theatrics unless she’s wearing new shoes, and she follows the law. Like her lots, and have learned many things from her.
I know, I know. Slightly horrifying.
Just ate two Safeway soy burgers and glopped ketchup and mustard down the front of my dress.
